Factory*
Factory* is a conceptual and spatial design project created for a spatial design course at Aalto University. The project was set in Lauttasaari, with the task of designing a concept for a residential building that supports communal living. The scope included conceptual development, floor plan design, 3D-modeling, and the creation of compelling visuals.
Factory* is an urban home care room and utility workshop, shared by the residents of Katajaharju 27 + 29, as well as all Helsinki residents. The concept uniquely brings the intimacy of daily life into the public sphere by elevating the most private aspects of household management and seamless everyday functioning into a communal space. Factory* unites the essential functions of everyday life with the facilities and tools typically found in private garages of detached houses. The concept challenges the notions of what can be communal and shared, and above all, sustainable.
